Wastewater Treatment
The Town of Millinocket Wastewater Treatment Department is located along the banks of the West Branch of the Penobscot River. We are responsible for the removal of contaminants from wastewater, both runoff and domestic. Our 3 Pond Facultative Lagoon System produces a waste stream (or treated effluent) that is suitable for discharge or reuse back into the environment.

Millinocket completed construction of the wastewater treatment facility in 1980. The wastewater treatment facility averages 1.5 million gallons of wastewater a day and has a maximum daily capacity of 2.33 million gallons. The wastewater treatment facility is staffed from 6:00 am to 2:30 pm Monday through Thursday and from 6:00 am to 12:00 pm on Fridays. It is staffed by 3 full-time employees and 1 summer seasonal employee.

The operators monitor the equipment and have forms pertaining to its operation. Operators cover a large area and may not be accessible by telephone. If you cannot reach someone in person, please leave a message. If you have billing questions, you need to contact the Tax Collector at (207) 723-7006, the wastewater treatment operators do not handle billing questions.

The Town of Millinocket would like visitors to the region know that it operates a waste dump for campers at the Katahdin Area Chamber of Commerce on Outer Central Street (Rte. 157).
