Millinocket is located in the northern part of Maine's Penobscot County. With a population hovering near 5000 people, Millinocket is a key hub in this part of the state. Millinocket is home to the Millinocket Regional Hospital that serves the regions healthcare needs. Stearns High School with its Performing Arts Department and sports complex hosts many of the regional high school competitions that take place in this part of the state. Our public library has reading material and activities for both young and not so young.

Katahdin Paper LLC, the former Great Northern Paper Co., is currently studying investing in a biomass boiler for the paper mill. Millinocket Fabrication & Machine Inc. provides industrial services from its Millinocket location. Airplanes land on Millinocket Municipal Airport's 4713 ft. runway as people visit the area for business and pleasure. Today, many of the town's businesses are located on Central Street while others are situated on our historic Penobscot and Katahdin Avenues.

Millinocket has many public organizations who bring valuable services to the community. The Katahdin Area Rotary is currently undertaking the revitalization of Jerry Pond. Other organizations assist with youth or adult activities. We currently have 7 churches in town. The Katahdin Area Chamber of Commerce, a regional organization, is located in Millinocket and serves area businesses.
